Empowering Our Local Communities Through Literacy
Every year, we partner with charitable organizations that embody our SPIRIT values. Through nominations, our team in Singapore selected to contribute to the Epworth Literacy Intervention Programme: a project that educates and prepares children to overcome learning challenges. Our sponsorship provided 5 deserving children the opportunity to receive the literacy intervention they need for a flourishing life through supported education.
When partnering with charitable organizations, we encourage our employees to become directly involved with the charity’s initiatives if they so choose. Many volunteers from our Singapore office signed up to facilitate reading lessons at Epworth Literacy. Additionally, with COVID-19 protocol requirements easing, some colleagues opted to spend time reading to the children in person!
After some introductions and trivia activities, the children started to warm up to our colleagues which led to many fun, engaging, and energizing sessions. Thrilled by the positive responses, our colleagues will continue to conduct several in-person and online reading sessions across all levels.
An award ceremony to commemorate the children’s completion of the literacy program was also conducted together with the supportive parents, caregivers, and teachers from Epworth Literacy Centre and our Teekay colleagues. As a token of appreciation, the children came together to make an artwork to present to our Teekay colleagues.
We value the importance of giving back to the communities in which we live and work, and are humbled to be given the opportunity to support these children in their education.
