Wishing our big Teekay family around the world a happy and safe holidays!
Another year has flown by! As we do every year, we like to pause and reflect on some of the most memorable moments we had. While it’s not always easy, we know our work matters. We share a passion for success and high performance, supported by a strong belief that we can achieve more, TOGETHER.
We will like to take a moment thank our employees, customers, investors and partners for all your hard work, support and contributions in 2017. We close the year with a reminder of how we made it through, as a team, with Teekay Spirit!
It’s crazy how much happens in a year. While it’s hard to choose our absolutely favorite moments, we selected the milestones we didn’t want you to miss. Enjoy!
#1 Safety First!
Yes, every year we begin by highlighting our safety milestones. But that’s how we always do it. Safety and Sustainability are at the very top of our values. We look after each other and make sure everyone gets home safely. The safety of our people and the safe operations of our ships are of paramount importance – and we don’t just say that. We live it. Our LTI-Free achievements are proof of our commitment. We applaud and thank everyone onboard for making sure you all go home safely. Keep it up!
#2 Celebrating Teekay’s 44th Birthday… with Cake
To celebrate Teekay’s 44th birthday in May, we asked Teekay employees in all our offices and across our fleet to celebrate in a way we know best – with cake! From vessels of all shapes, flags from around the world, Teekay logos made of almost-anything-you-can-imagine, to a hand drawn Torben portrait, this contest proved us one thing: at Teekay, we can make anything happen. Check out all the cakes.
#3 A Giant’s Makeover: Tangguh Hiri
Docking, cleaning, blasting, painting, anchor replacement, shaft inspection, propeller cleaning and testing, lifeboat inspection and testing, cargo tank inspection and testing, pump overhauls, main engine inspection, sea chest inspection, bridge upgrades… An estimated 650 jobs in total, all in a day’s work (well, ok, 17 days’ work) for the ship and fleet team managing the LNG carrier Tangguh Hiri drydocking in Singapore.
#4 A 360 Tour Around a Tanker’s Engine Room
By now, we hope you have seen our 360-video content. If not, you can’t miss this one – a walk around the massive engine that powers a tanker. For the best experience, view the 360 videos using the Google Chrome web browser or the YouTube mobile app. When viewing on a computer, click and drag the screen around to view all angles. Enjoy!
#5 One Year of Successful Operations: Creole Spirit
It seems like it was just yesterday when we were gearing up to bring the first MEGI Vessel Creole Spirit in to operation. This year, on February 17, the vessel completed its first year in operation with great success and LTI-free. It is a great example of the team effort from everyone involved. Well done to the Creole Spirit team!
#6 From Shuttle Tanker to an FSO: Randgrid FSO
Millions of hours of hard work and even more passion and dedication have been put into this conversion project and, what’s most important, it was done so without any injuries to personnel. After successful field installation and testing, the Randgrid FSO unit began operations and its charter contract with Statoil on the Gina Krog oil and gas field in the North Sea.
#7 Nagasaki Spirit: Always Remembered
On September 19, we remembered the Nagasaki Spirit which was hit by the container ship the Ocean Blessing. Engulfed by flames, 46 crew members from both vessels perished, with only two crew members surviving the horrific incident. We made the following video in memory of those who lost their lives on that tragic day, 25 years ago. We will never forget.
#8 ALP Tugs in Action!
We love seeing our ALP tugs in action and so does our audience! ALP Striker completed her Bollard Pull test and it was captured in a video – pure beauty. The video has over 150K views and it has everyone amazed. If that isn’t enough, ALP Defender also had its moment this year when it towed Randgrid FSO out of the shipyard, here are the photos.
#9 Naming and Delivery of The Heritage Class
On August 25th, we celebrated a triple naming ceremony in Korea. Teekay’s newest shuttle tankers, Beothuk Spirit, Norse Spirit and Dorset Spirit, were officially christened and named in honor of the people who first inhabited the area around Newfoundland. The first two shuttle tankers have been delivered to provide crude transportation services in the East Coast of Canada.
#10 Our First Icebreaking LNG Newbuilding: Eduard Toll
It’s been a great experience to see our first LNG icebreaking newbuilding come together, from steel cutting at the beginning of the year to gas trials in October. Eduard Toll successfully completed sea and gas trials and the team is getting her ready for delivery in January 2018.
#11 The Torben Legacy
On October 3, we remembered the passing of our founder J. Torben Karlshoej. It was 25 years ago, that Torben died at the age of 50. As we stop to remember this sad part of our company history, we also reflect on the powerful legacy that Torben has left behind. While Teekay has grown and changed significantly over the last 25 years, our values have not.
#12 Ship-to-Ship Transfer
Have you seen a full ship-to-ship transfer operation? We got you. Watch what happens during a unique Underway STS operation in the Gulf of Mexico conducted by one of our specialized Mooring Masters. From fender deployment, to hose connection, to cargo transfer – this is what an STS process looks like. Want more? We captured the whole transfer in 360, watch here.
#13 Libra FPSO Achieving First Oil
A proud moment for all of us when the Libra FPSO achieved first oil! The unit was converted from one of Teekay’s shuttle tanker into an FPSO, designed to operate at water depths of up to 2,400 meters and with a production capacity of 50,000 barrels of oil per day. The Libra FPSO commenced its 12-year charter contract just last week and it’s the first unit to produce oil on the giant Libra field.
#14 Officially the World’s Largest Publicly-Listed Mid-Sized Tanker Company
On May 31, Teekay Tankers announced a merger agreement with Tanker Investments Ltd., creating the world’s largest publicly-listed mid-sized tanker company. The merger was officially completed on November 27, modernizing the fleet through the addition of 18 vessels with an average age of 7.4 years.
#15 The Many Faces of Teekay
We want the world to know about Teekay. We want the world to think highly of Teekay, to trust us with their investments and energy projects. We want the Teekay brand to showcase that commitment and excellence. But, what is behind all that commitment and hard work? This very short video is an interstitial that we use as an “outro” to many of our videos. It is some of the many faces of Teekay, those colleagues who make it happen for us every day, bringing energy to the world with Teekay SPIRIT.
