A Day in the Life of a Corporation Communications Coordinator
What’s it like to really win at life? It’s landing a job at the multi-national oil and gas marine shipping company where there’s an espresso machine in the kitchen. In other words, working here is pretty great and what better way to discover Teekay than to hear it from someone who works here?
Let me introduce myself, my name is Marie and I am part of the Corporate Communications department here in Vancouver. As the operational headquarters, over 200 employees work here. In total however, Teekay is about +7,000 employees strong both at sea and on shore. Although time zones and oceans separate us, Teekay still feels like home because we share our stories through our community on Yammer. You’ll get very intimate with the platform once you’re here – more about that later.
A typical day for me is busy. It can change by the minute and most definitely keeps you on your toes. My job is to keep the website alive. With the help of Lillian (your future co-worker), we create blog content like the one you’re reading now. The rest of my time is spent creating new pages, updating information, fixing glitches, collecting analytics, sending news releases and launching new websites of companies coming under-hire. I also busy myself with putting together collateral like our seafarers newsletter, “The Current” and our newsletter, “Teekay Stories“. When I am not hiding behind three computer screens, you’ll find me around the office filming a tanker market updatevideo or in the galley having a snack. After all, champions need their fuel, am I right?
Ultimately, it’s not what you do it’s who you do it with. Being that the Corporate Communication department is small (5 of us), coming to work eager to take on challenges, have a good laugh and get knee deep in whatever is thrown your way is your key to success!
