Glasgow’s Training Centre Achieves MCA Recognition - Teekay

The Training Centre Obtained MCA Approval for the Course ‘Specialised Gas Training’

Teekay Glasgow celebrated the opening of its Training Centre on May 9, 2014. Since then, the centre has grown from strength to strength, providing state-of-the-art training through the use of navigation and cargo operations simulators, to officers from both the LNG and Conventional fleets. Both the bridge and cargo simulator installations are DNV certified.

So far the Training Centre has facilitated a number of different courses to over 200 officers and shore personnel, ensuring continued business and operational focus, in the following areas:

Licos
Specialized Gas
Ship Handling
Safety Management and Onboard Safety Officer
Leadership Development
Bridge Team Training
Bridge Watch Keeping
Konsgberg Engine/Bridge/ECDIS Training

Additionally, throughout 2014 the Training Centre continued to maintain and affirm its relationship with the Bahamas Maritime Authority. Coinciding with the opening, from May 5 to 9, Commodore Davy Rolle of the Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA) attended the Training Centre to complete an assessment of the ‘Licos’ training course, provided by Teekay. The centre was successful in obtaining Bahamian accreditation, upholding Teekay’s commitment to achieving and maintaining and high international standards. Earlier this year, the Training Centre undertook its next operational challenge, obtaining MCA approval for the course ‘Specialised Gas Training.’ This allows our Training Centre in Glasgow to provide certification to a standard which is recognized as per STCW as set by the International Maritime Organization. On February 9, 2015, seven Officers from the LNG gas fleet and seven shore personnel completed the Specialised Gas training course with Devendra Das (MCA Surveyor) in attendance to assess the credentials of the course. Gaining MCA approval exhibits a considerable milestone in the achievements of the Teekay Glasgow Training Centre. This solidifies Teekay’s commitment to providing seafarers with quality training, to the growth of the marine industry and exemplifying Teekay as a training provider and employer of choice.
