Ane Smith, a Contemporary Art Practice and six of her fellow students were looking for exhibition space as part of their course. This year, they chose to study the link between Norwegian Folklore and mental illness. An elusive and quite exciting mix to see! As this time of the year is usually quite wed and cold, the students were not keen on exhibiting outside. It was suggested that we, at Teekay Petrojarl, could help out! We quickly got Dennis Law on board with the idea. A varied selection of artifacts were displayed and some nervous students made their rounds around the office to welcome staff to view the work and chat. The students served appetizers and soft drinks (as would most professional artists at an official grand opening. Voila!). The feedback from our colleagues was great and some even used the opportunity to purchase pictures! Following the first staff showing, the students did another two hour exhibition. This time for their tutors, fellow students, friends, and family. It was another very busy period for the students but it was filled with lots of encouraging words. We were humbled by the letter we received from the students following the exhibition: “We would like to say thank you for giving us the opportunity to hold an exhibition at your office. We found it very helpful and insightful for our course work, particularly for those who had not taken part in an exhibition before. We are also very grateful for the £90 sponsorship which we used towards the events which has greatly help our student budget. We hope you and your colleagues enjoyed the experience as much as we did, and also thank you for the opportunity to exhibit again and look forward to seeing you in December.”
