Ocean Towing – a new business segment to Teekay Offshore

ALP – Long distance towage
In February 2014, Teekay completed the acquisition of ALP Maritime Services B.V. (ALP), adding a new business segment to Teekay Offshore.
ALP offers operational solutions to its offshore customers, such as ocean towage, the transportation of ultra-large and ultra-heavy cargoes, and decommissioning services. This gives Teekay additional flexibility and optionality when offering customers offshore solutions within production, storage and transportation.
As part of the acquisition, Teekay ordered four 300 ts SX-157 Ulstein X-Bow Design long-distance towing and anchor handling vessels. These vessels have been designed to meet and surpass industry standards. The new buildings are expected to be delivered in 2016.
In the beginning of November last year, ALP entered into an agreement to acquire six long-distance towing and anchor handling vessels. These vessels operate in the 200 and 300 tons bollard pull segment. ALP has already taken over three of the ships and the remaining ones will join the fleet by the end of March. The vessels are presently the most powerful and advanced long-distance towing and anchor-handling vessels on the market. They are, however, soon to be surpassed by the four Ulstein X-Bow Design long- vessels, giving Teekay a truly modern fleet of long distance towing and anchor handling vessels.
