“I’m glad that I am the chosen one to represent Teekay and to apply all the skills I have learned from my 15 years of experience onboard.”
Teekay has been a proud supporter of Mercy Ships and we understand the value of providing hope and healing to those in need. This is why we did not hesitate to extend our support once again in the form of sponsoring the skills and services of our reliable AB Marloue Wison onboard the ship, Africa Mercy. Marloue was happy to share his experience with us and even included some photos from his tenure.
“When I heard that Teekay was searching for crew for Mercy Ships’ hospital ship, I was curious. I was interested to see a new environment, to have new experiences, and to learn how a hospital ship works.
On my first day, everything felt new. Even though I am versed in maintenance work, the ship team onboard is very generous with their knowledge and I still learned new things every day. We were in dry dock in Durban and eventually sailed out to Madagascar where our ship operates on medical. The trainings and get-togethers never stop. We would have onboard meetings about our daily agenda, technical meetings for our day-to-day jobs, and social gatherings with our teams, including singing every Tuesdays and Thursdays!
I am joined by two female ABs from South Africa and the Netherlands, and the rest of the crew members are from different nationalities, all over the world. I was very happy onboard as everyone has been so welcoming and are very approachable. In fact, just one day after my arrival, the whole department did a very touching send off to one of our crew members who signed off.
I am now safely back home in the Philippines, and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to share my skills and to make a difference in the world.”
