The new contract will expand on Teekay Australia’s long-term association with the Commonwealth of Australia through the Defence Marine Support Services Program (DMSSP), a critical enabler of the Australian Defence capability.
The Department of Defence has been a customer of Teekay’s Australian operations since 2003. Over the years, we have built a strong relationship with the Australian Defence and other Commonwealth Agencies through operating, managing, and supporting marine assets across multiple aspects of maritime acquisition and sustainment. This new contract is a continuation of our long-standing relationship, as we work to support the ADF’s mission and the objective for enhanced coordination of marine service requirements across the Australian Defence.
The DMSSP has been designed to operate under a Defence regulatory governance and assurance framework, supported through contemporary commercial best practice, for the delivery of marine support services. It is intended to create a flexible and scalable contracting framework to allow changes in levels of services, as well as the needs of additional future users – other Commonwealth agencies.
This new contract, DMSSP Service Package 2 (SP2), will include two of the Defence vessels currently managed by Teekay (MV Sycamore and ADV Ocean Protector), and three other vessels currently under an existing Fleet Marine Service Contract (FMSC), M.V Stoker, M.V. Besant and MV Seahorse Mercator. Through this new contract, Teekay will continue to employ hundreds of Australian seafarers and prioritize support of Australian Industry though engagement of Australian subcontractors and vendors.
As an existing strategic partner to the Australian Department of Defence, Teekay has the required commercial, technical and financial capability to achieve the DMSSP objectives. We are already demonstrating our credentials to a high standard through our current in-service support arrangements for both the MV Sycamore and the ADV Ocean Protector – and we are committed to supporting the Department of Defence and other Commonwealth agencies long into the future.
