On June 18, 2015, the Mumbai officetook to their mats to partake in “International Yoga Day.” Teekay Mumbai hosted a special Yoga Program followed by a team walk to celebrate the Global Corporate Challenge halfway mark. The office also enlisted the help of a professional yoga instructor as well as Teekay’s very own HSEQ Manager, Captain Nawin Khaware. Known to most as an expert yogi, Captain Khaware spoke passionately about the benefits of practicing yoga and motivated many to start taking up the activity regularly.
The day is of special significance for India as its Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked world leaders to adopt International Yoga Day on the longest day of the year; the summer solstice. As stated by the United Nations, the draft resolutionproposed by Mr. Modi establishing the International Day of Yoga was endorsed by a record 175 member states and has been in observance since December 2014.
Like most yoga sessions, the Teekay Mumbai team started their practice with a short meditation period, followed by a warm up, as well as a few Asanas. Not sure if we’re talking about a delicious dish or yoga pose? No worries. Asanas denote the art of sitting still or any other posture meant to restore a person’s well-being. Here are some examples to try at home: Bhujangasana, Sarvangasana, Vakrasana, Gomukhasana, and Pawanmuktasana.
Below, you will find some photos of the nimble Teekay Mumbai staff trying their hand at a few yoga poses.
