On May 9, the official keel laying ceremony for the research vessel, Investigator, took place at Sembawang Shipyard in Singapore.
In 2011, Teekay Australia successfully won the tender for the design and build of the vessel and signed a contract for the work with Sembawang Shipyard. The Investigator is being designed and built for the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Australia’s national science agency.
When finished the ship will be one of the most sophisticated science research vessels in the world.
Various VIPs travelled from Australia for the ceremony with DR. Megan Clark, Chief Executive of CSIRO, as the main guest of honor. Speeches where given by Dr. Clark; Mr. P.K Ong, Managing Director of Sembawang Shipyard Pte. Ltd. and Tony Fielding, Project Director for the Sembawang Shipyard Pte. Ltd. Teekay (SSPTLTK) build team.
