Teekay Achieves Industry First with Officer Competence Certification In August 2008, Teekay was the first shipping company in the world to be certified as complying with the requirements of the Tanker Officer Training Standard (TOTS), a programme set up by INTERTANKO to establish and evaluate tanker officer competence across the industry.
Teekay Wins BP Environmental Award On February 20, 2008, Teekay was awarded the BP Shipping CEO’s Outstanding Environmental Achievement Award for 2007, recognizing the company’s “significant accomplishments in marine environmental protection.”
Teekay LNG Officer Training accredited by SIGTTO Teekay was the first shipping company to have the LNG training section of its competence management system accredited as being in compliance with the Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators (SIGTTO) requirements in December 2006.
Teekay Philippines Receives the Ministerial Award and Presidential Award of Distinction In November 2005, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) presented the Ministerial Award and the Presidential Award of Distinction to the Teekay Philippines office. The company also received these prestigious awards in 2002. The awards recognize ship owners that provide employment benefits above industry standards; and provide social and welfare programs and/or activities for the families of their Filipino seafarers.
Teekay Norway Ranked Among the Best Places to Work In June 2005, the Great Place to Work® Institute recognized Teekay Norway as that country’s third best place to work. The Great Place to Work® Institute measured workplaces by the quality of three interconnected relationships – between employees and management, employees and their jobs/company, and employees and other employees.
Teekay Commended for SCOPE On February 24, 2005, Teekay received the Training Award at the 2005 Lloyd's List Awards for our SCOPE (Seafarer Competency for Operational Excellence) program. The Training Award celebrates the achievements of organizations that develop and enhance skills of professionals within the shipping industry.
Teekay Chosen as Employer of Choice in the Philippines In November 2003, Teekay was one of 36 companies presented with the Philippine Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) International Employers Award. The award recognizes selfless commitment to both employing Filipino seafarers and enabling them to become world-class employees. Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo gave the Presidential Award of Distinction to employers who have rendered extraordinary acts of assistance to Filipinos in rescue operations, training and development of seafarers, family welfare programs, and other social responsibilities. Teekay was among the 13 companies so honored.
