With the addition of our lightering services, Teekay offers comprehensive oil transportation services, from upstream production right through to product distribution from downstream facilities. Lightering, an essential link in the total supply chain, is the ship-to-ship transfer of oil on its way to production sites.
Our Aframax-sized lightering vessels are an efficient way to transport cargo into shallow or narrow ports unable to accommodate VLCCs – as is the case in the Gulf of Mexico and along the Atlantic Coast.
Teekay provides lightering services through its joint venture with SPT Inc. SPT performs full-service lightering operations which utilize the company’s Aframax tankers, lightering support vessels, fenders, hoses and Mooring Masters. Lightering support operations are also performed that do not require one of SPT’s tankers. SPT operates globally in the US Gulf, US East Coast, US West Coast, Aruba, Northwest Europe, Mediterranean, and West Africa, with plans to expand into the Far East. |
